Today, thousands of women protested the Egyptian military’s brutality. Egyptian security forces have killed 14 people and injured more than 900 since Friday. One particular incident, which has enraged the world, is a video clip of Egyptian soldiers dragging a woman protester on the ground by her shirt, exposing her underwear, then clubbing and stomping on her body.
There are many other incidents of women protesters being beaten or dragged by their hair and molested whilst in custody.
In what appeared to be a response to the protest, Egypt’s military issued a statement in which they expressed ‘deep sorrow’ over the abuses, saying that those responsible have had legal measures taken against them. Yeah right…
Referring to a government archive building set alight during clashes an army advisor, retired general Abdel Moneim Kato, told al-Shorouk daily ‘Yet you worry about a vagrant who should be burnt in Hitler’s incinerators.’

That’s pretty sick to expose her and then drag, club, and kick her. Dragged by their hair and molested? I’ve always said it was caveman mentality and that’s the epitome of it.
The video is blocked in the US as well. Though, in agreement with Aliasalpha, while it is important that a this brutality must be brought into a worldwide public awareness, just knowing the context of the video is horrifying to me.
Given that over 80% of Egyptians supporting barbarism such as stoning and murdering apostates these people are not freedom fighters we are merely seeing a clash between factions to decide what sort of tyranny will take shape, just as the 2009 Iran protests were a fight between one anti-Semitic theocratic fraction vs. another anti-Semitic theocratic faction over a powerless theocratic post. But I’m not surprised to see a red assume that people out in the streets share her exact views.
The video is blocked for people in australia (or at least for this person). I’m debating asking if there’s another source or not, its clearly important to see but equally clearly it’ll be one of those videos that makes me want to strangle people
This is appalling, but it’s good that women are mobilising and demonstrating now. They deserve a voice, and shame on all of the parties – those running for office and those currently in office – for shutting out their voice.
I shouldn’t be surprised, but I unfortunately find myself once again shocked and appalled at the utter brutality that humans can inflict upon other humans. Standing front and center of these barbaric actions is more than likely religion…
