Posing as a taxi driver, Jafar Panahi, shoots his third “guerilla” film since being banned from filmmaking for 20 years. Using hidden cameras he records witty conversations with friends and strangers as he ferries them across the city. Perhaps the most poignant is his young niece who has been asked by her teacher to make a film without any “sordid realism” and we suspect her teacher is just like the censorious Iranian government. Taxi was smuggled out of Iran to win the Golden Bear at last year’s Berlin festival.
The Iranian human rights activist, Maryam Namazie will lead an audience discussion after the screening.
