Two years ago, Kamal Mohammadian, an activist and political prisoner from Iranian Kurdistan, who had managed to escape to Iraqi Kurdistan, was handed back to the Iranian government by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. 16 days ago, after years of torture and abuse, he was executed along with three others by the Iranian government, according to the Kurdistan Committee of the Worker-communist Party of Iran.

Mohammadian’s tortuous life and death is one more example of how unsafe Iraqi Kurdistan is for Iranian asylum seekers. It is just one more example of why the Islamic Republic of Iran is condemnable, unsafe to deport asylum seekers back to Iran and why it must go.
