The Director General of the Census Bureau in Hormozgan announced that there had been five marriages of girls under the age of 10 in the Iranian province. Latest national statistics for children ‘married’ under the age of 14 in Iran is 24,506 girls and 5, 519 boys. The total number of marriages from 10-18 years of age is 848,000.

A member of the Islamic Assembly (Majlis) and its ‘Judicial Commission’, Nayereh Akhavan (here’s a photo of her), has said that there can be no ban on child marriages because there are ten year olds who have reached ‘sexual and intellectual puberty’ and because it would ‘contradict sharia’. And of course there is Ayatollah Khomeini ‘s book of sayings: ‘Tahrir al Wasilah’, where he says that a man can even have sex with a baby.
He says: ‘A man can have sexual pleasure from a child as young as a baby. However, he should not penetrate vaginally, but sodomising the child is acceptable. If a man does penetrate and damage the child then, he should be responsible for her subsistence all her life. This girl will not count as one of his four permanent wives and the man will not be eligible to marry the girl’s sister… It is better for a girl to marry at such a time when she would begin menstruation at her husband’s house, rather than her father’s home. Any father marrying his daughter so young will have a permanent place in heaven.’

The Green Book is disturbing in itself, but I could not find a passage related to pleasuring one’s self with a young child. It supposedly is in the other Khomeini book TAHRIR AL-WASILAH. I found an English translation, but how do I know it is translated accurately? Using searches and a very quick review, I did not find a passage on thighing a young child. HOWEVER, near the end of the book in the glossary, I found the following definition. Tafkhidh: Rubbing the male organ on or between the thighs (of a woman). Why is this defined, if it is not talked about in the body of the text? I suspect the parenthetical comment is not in the original, hence it is separate with parenthesis. That’s very suggestive that something has been left out of the English translation since there is a definition given but no reference within the text. Oops, they forgot to edit it out of the glossary – busted! Here is Mohammad Tawhidi reading a book of sayings or rulings from Khomaini. I don’t see reference to the “Fourth Volume” but rather the “Fourth Edition”. An Edition means a republication not a different volume.

This might help you to see that the initial impulse comes from the adult involved, never from the child. There are so many people, especially men, who see a female as sexually passive — to-be-penetrated, while a male is seen as sexually active — to penetrate. At the same time the same men seem to see females as existing for their pleasure, whose “natural” feelings lead them to desire to be available to whomever they love. This view is wholly self-serving, based on a seeking for gratification of an impulse. When I read this post and looked up the references, my whole being was seized with a sort of numbness. There it all was, and what words are adequate, or even possible? Has anyone actually bought the book and read it to verify if this text is actually in it? I googled this and can’t find any verified references to this. I would like to be able to back this up with some kind of academic reference.

Of course child “marriage” is disgusting. I also know the custom here in Indonesia of killing animals after they have been allegedly raped by someone – often killed horribly, for example by dragging a cow out to sea to drown her behind a boat.
Nevertheless we have to be very particular about the sources. I find it somewhat difficult to believe that infant sodomy could have been condoned by the Ayatollah.
