Love without limits: Homage to Aliaa Magda Elmahdy

Dozens of Israeli women stripped in support of Aliaa Magda Elmahdy, the Egyptian blogger who posed nude as a scream against Islamism.

Addressing Islamists, Aliaa wrote on her blog:

‘Prosecute nude models who worked in Fine Art Faculties in the early 1970s, hide all art books and smash naked archaeological statues. Then take off your clothes and look at yourselves in the mirror, then burn your body that you so despise to get rid of your sexual complexes forever, before subjecting me to your bigoted insults or denying my freedom of expression.’

Can anyone say anymore?

No One is free to Talk drugs ,or untie the seat belt
what she did isn’t freedom as long it is against society’s values
Her act isn’t allowed by the force off the low.
    excuse my English 😀

That is reprehensible. Freedom of expression is a human right. You cannot demand that she give up her rights because it is against your “values”. Stop trying to force your dogma on others, you hypocrit.

I don’t know how to explain my idea in English put let me try.

it’s democracy to take decisions that most of the people agree with it , In Egypt that’s our Decisions , we believe that we nudity in public is Crime and we made the most democratic decision that we will not allow this in our culture .
you are free to come to Egypt as a tourist and do what ever you like because we respect your culture and we will not force you to follow ours
Aliaa is free to Explain her Ideas and demand to change the lows in Egypt and once she change them (When we accept her ideas of-course ) she is free to take off what ever she wants because the most off Egypt agree with her ,put simply ignores the laws that represent the people this isn’t freedom .

  4. Hmmmm maybe activism isn’t so lame after all…. 😉

Heh nice one. Perhaps the next one should be a shot from above, all the women can be arranged so together they form a hand with a giant upraised middle finger

We often forget the prevalent sexism in human history and its ever present effects on language and culture. “Manly” for example, is a postive adjective attributing bravery among other qualities. This eygptian woman is the “manliest ” person I know.

  7. I think what Aliaa did is more of a challenge against oppression to freedom of speech, not against Islamism.

    1. Islamism is the main threat today against free expression; they are the ones threatening her and the ones I believe she is addressing…

        Thanks you.

      2. What nonsense, Islamism is a key threat to freedom in the mid east (along with Baathism) but to say that its the number 1 threat is absurd or do you think that the PRC is somehow Islamist?

Riley, there is absolutely nothing more absurd than your comment. Baathism today exists in one country only (Syria). Islamism exists all over the middle east, north africa, central asia, south and southseast asia and even europe. And yes, in most of those regions IT IS the middle iggest threat to freedom of exprrssion (re prophet’s cartoons) whether you like it ot not.

          1. I agree that its a key threat in the mid east (although Algeria was the first state to defeat an Islamist insurgency) but to say its the main threat everywhere as maryam did is absurd, the genocidal Serbian orthodox church is a key threat in the Balkans unlike metropolitan Bosnian Islam, Maoism is a key threat in Asia, gangsterism is the key threat to South American liberty etc.
